There are several opportunities available to obtain life insurance as a Town of Brunswick employee:
For employees who participate in the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust medical plan; Basic life insurance is automatically provided free of charge for the employee. This coverage equals one times the annual salary of the employee. Should an employee elect not to participate in the health insurance program, life insurance is not provided (but may be purchased separately).
As of February 1, 2012, employees have the option of purchasing additional Life Insurance (Basic or Supplemental) through the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust.
As an alternative, employees may purchase life insurance through the Maine Public Employees Retirement System Group Life Insurance Program. Life insurance may be purchased as follows: Basic (one times the salary), Supplemental/One (doubles the salary), Supplemental/Two (triples the salary), and Supplemental/Three (quadruples the salary). Dependent plans are also available for spouse and children (Basic coverage required). Any Life insurance elected from the Maine Public Employees Retirement System Group Life Insurance Program is 100% paid by the Employee through biweekly payroll deductions.
