General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. Unless otherwise noted, a Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Applications and job descriptions may also be obtained from the Town Manager’s Office in the Brunswick Municipal Building. For further information, please call the Human Resources Department at (207) 725-6653.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. Completed applications, along with resume, cover letter and other supporting documents, may be returned or delivered by U.S. Mail or in person to Human Resources Department, 85 Union Street, Brunswick, ME 04011. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Truck Driver:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks a safety-conscious operator for the position of Truck Driver.

This position requires heavy lifting and outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions. Experience with winter snow plowing is helpful.  A valid Class B/CDL license with a good driving record is required.  The leading candidate will undergo and must successfully pass a pre-employment physical including a chemical/drug screening test.

This position is full-time (40-hours per week). The range of pay is $15.39 to $16.56 per hour, depending on experience.  The Town of Brunswick offers an excellent benefit package including options for health, dental and/or life insurances, short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and 13 paid holidays.

Deputy Marine Warden/Deputy Harbormaster:  **Re-Advertised**

The Marine Division of the Town of Brunswick Police Department seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Deputy Marine Warden/Deputy Harbormaster.

The ideal candidate for this full-time/year-round position will be seeking employment in the area of enforcement and conservation pertaining to marine and environmental laws. The selected candidate will enforce the Town’s Ordinance, as well as State Statutes.  Duties include, but are not limited to, ongoing jurisdiction patrol to detect illegal shell fishing and/or other environmental violations.  This position will assist with pollution identification efforts, water quality collection and any scientific studies that determine the health of the local shellfish industry.

Requirements: Valid driver’s license in good standing; ability both to work independently and to safely operate a watercraft.  The hired candidate will be expected to complete several certification programs within the first year of employment.

The leading candidate will undergo a detailed background check, which includes a polygraph, psychological and medical examinations. Applicants should currently hold 60 or more college credits.  Completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service 100 Hours Course is required.

School Crossing Guard:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking individuals for the position of School Crossing Guard. This position is during the school year only and will be ten hours per week.  The pay is $10.50 per hour.

The Candidate must have ability to work flexible hours (two hours per day: morning from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and afternoon from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.) in all weather conditions. The hiring process includes a thorough background check.

The Town of Brunswick Police Department seeks existing certified Law Enforcement Officers for an opening within the Patrol Division. 

The Brunswick Police Department is a progressive department, devoted to community involvement, utilizing a team-oriented approach.  To fulfill our current mission statement, we believe in up-to-date training and offer other educational opportunities to our Officers to deal with today’s law enforcement needs.  We opened a new Station in October of 2013, located at the corner of Pleasant and Stanwood Streets.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. Our base pay is $20.00 to $21.72 per hour.  The Department highly considers prior experience when determining the starting pay rate.  With the Department’s educational incentive benefit and a four-year degree; the pay range for this position will be $21.86 to 23.89 per hour.  Town benefits include options for health, dental and/or life insurances; short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and paid holidays/floaters.  Additional benefits include educational assistance/incentive, physical fitness bonus ($350 to $1,445 per year), paid gym memberships (up to $350 per year), yearly clothing allowance and a 20-year retirement option.  A $2,500 bonus will be paid to the successful candidate upon commencement of employment and an additional $2,500 on their one-year anniversary.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a Certified Maine Law Enforcement Officer status or an equivalent certification from another State. In addition, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and have attained an Associate’s Degree (or 60 college credits) or equivalent work/military history with a specialization in criminal justice preferred.  A minimum score of 50 is required on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT Test.  While past completion of the MCJA PAT is helpful; the Brunswick Police Department will conduct a mandatory Physical Agility Test for all candidates.  This will be scheduled accordingly following application.  Clearance by the candidate’s physician will be required in order to proceed.  Leading candidates will undergo an Oral Board interview, background investigations, polygraph/psychological and a medical exam.
