General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. Unless otherwise noted, a Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Director of Planning and Development:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking a dynamic candidate to fill the position of Director of Planning and Development. This is a highly responsible department head position, and a member of the Town’s senior management team. This position is responsible for directing the land-use planning, codes enforcement, and related functions of the Town. The position requires proficiency in modern land use planning principles and practices; ordinance development and enforcement; personnel, project, and budget management; and significant analytical, communication, public presentation, and consensus-building skills.  The Director functions with considerable independence and latitude in accordance with established policies and procedures, and general direction from the Town Manager.  The position manages four Planning and Development staff members.

The successful applicant will have a degree in land-use planning, urban planning or policy, or in a related field. In addition, a minimum of five (5) years of planning and administration experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) is required in order to effectively perform the requirements of this position.  AICP certification or advanced academic credentials preferred.  Candidates should review the complete position description in detail for the essential functions and requirements of this highly responsible role.

Seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers (Winter):

The Parks & Recreation Department has several openings for seasonal parks maintenance workers this winter. Seasonal positions are temporary and will be up to 40 hours per week (non-benefit eligible). Flexible work week schedules are available. Some positions will include Saturdays and Sundays.

Duties: Typical seasonal maintenance duties, including snow and ice removal at all parks and facilities; securing park gates; trash pickup; and support of special events. A job description is available and can be found at, or from the Town Manager’s Office (85 Union Street, Brunswick).

Requirements: Must be able to operate small power hand tools and snow blowers; able to lift and carry 50 pounds; must have driver’s license with a good driving record.

Criminal and driving background checks will be conducted for final candidates. Steel-toed work boots are required. Pay range is $10.35 to $11.00 per hour, DOE.

School Crossing Guard:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking individuals for the position of School Crossing Guard. This position is during the school year only and will be ten hours per week.  The pay is $10.50 per hour.

The Candidate must have ability to work flexible hours (two hours per day: morning from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and afternoon from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.) in all weather conditions. The hiring process includes a thorough background check.

The Town of Brunswick Police Department seeks existing certified Law Enforcement Officers for an opening within the Patrol Division. 

The Brunswick Police Department is a progressive department, devoted to community involvement, utilizing a team-oriented approach.  To fulfill our current mission statement, we believe in up-to-date training and offer other educational opportunities to our Officers to deal with today’s law enforcement needs.  We opened a new Station in October of 2013, located at the corner of Pleasant and Stanwood Streets.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. Our base pay is $20.00 to $21.72 per hour.  The Department highly considers prior experience when determining the starting pay rate.  With the Department’s educational incentive benefit and a four-year degree; the pay range for this position will be $21.86 to 23.89 per hour.  Town benefits include options for health, dental and/or life insurances; short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and paid holidays/floaters.  Additional benefits include educational assistance/incentive, physical fitness bonus ($350 to $1,445 per year), paid gym memberships (up to $350 per year), yearly clothing allowance and a 20-year retirement option.  A $2,500 bonus will be paid to the successful candidate upon commencement of employment and an additional $2,500 on their one-year anniversary.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a Certified Maine Law Enforcement Officer status or an equivalent certification from another State. In addition, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and have attained an Associate’s Degree (or 60 college credits) or equivalent work/military history with a specialization in criminal justice preferred.  A minimum score of 50 is required on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT Test.  While past completion of the MCJA PAT is helpful; the Brunswick Police Department will conduct a mandatory Physical Agility Test for all candidates.  This will be scheduled accordingly following application.  Clearance by the candidate’s physician will be required in order to proceed.  Leading candidates will undergo an Oral Board interview, background investigations, polygraph/psychological and a medical exam.
