General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. A Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Open Positions:

TV Master Control Operator (P/T):  Brunswick TV3, the Government and Public Access Channel operated by the Town of Brunswick, is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of TV Master Control Operator. This part-time position reports directly to the Cable TV Coordinator.

In this position, you will be responsible for the operation of all television transmission and production equipment used to cablecast and record municipal meetings, as well as the audio and presentation systems utilized in the meeting room.

This part-time/year-round position involves changing work days and hours. Shifts are mostly in the evenings, to include some late afternoon meeting start times. As the length of meetings is unknown, it is required that the operator be available until the meeting has ended. It also requires the ability to work independently.

The successful candidate will have some technical background in television cable casting, broadcasting or related experience, as well as strong computer skills. The starting hourly rate is $12.50, with a three-hour minimum.

Economic and Community Development Director:  The Town of Brunswick seeks exceptional candidates to lead the Town’s ongoing economic and community development efforts. The successful candidate should be entrepreneurial, collaborative, and innovative. The position reports to the Town Manager and works closely with all levels of municipal government to develop and nurture relationships with Brunswick’s business communities, downtown interests, as well as with various governmental and community organizations.

Brunswick is a dynamic community of close to 22,000 residents, with a vibrant downtown, business park and a large retail and commercial district poised for growth and development. Brunswick is home to Brunswick Landing-Maine’s Center for Innovation, Brunswick Executive Airport, Bowdoin College, a campus of the Southern Maine Community College, various facilities of Bath Iron Works, a major hospital, several health services providers, and two of the largest solar farms in Maine. Brunswick boasts 66 miles of shorefront on Casco Bay, with abundant marine resources. The Town also has significant frontage on the Androscoggin and New Meadows rivers.

Candidates should have a solid foundation in the principles of business development, finance, and marketing. Work experience should include five or more years of executive experience in business planning and development, or management-level work within government or private organization. Proven collaboration, negotiation, presentation and written communication skills are required. Promotional and marketing experience is a plus.

Patrol Officer:  (**Please see important process forms below**). 

The Brunswick Police Department is a progressive department, devoted to community involvement, utilizing a team-oriented approach. To fulfill our current mission statement, we believe in up-to-date training and offer other educational opportunities to our Officers to assist them in dealing with today’s law enforcement needs.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. Our base pay is $21.31 to $21.95 per hour. The Department highly considers prior experience when determining the starting pay rate. With the Department’s educational incentive benefit and a four-year degree; the pay range for this position will be $24.15 to $24.88 per hour. The Town of Brunswick Police Department continues to offer a $5,000 signing bonus to existing Certified Law Enforcement Officers. Lateral entry pay range is up to $28.46 per hour.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and attained an Associate’s Degree (or 60 college credits) or equivalent work/military history with specialization in criminal justice preferred. A minimum score of 50 is required on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) ALERT test. There are multiple testing opportunities available in early 2019. While successful completion of the MCJA Physical Agility Test (PAT) is helpful; the Brunswick Police Department will conduct a required PAT for all candidates on either Saturday, March 23rd or Sunday, March 24, 2019. Candidates should hold these dates, pending confirmation. Details will be forthcoming to candidates following application. Clearance by the candidate’s physician is required to participate in Brunswick’s PAT. Leading candidates will then undergo an Oral Board interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and a medical exam. The hired candidate would attend the next 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at MCJA in August, 2019.

Assessor:  The Town of Brunswick seeks an outstanding candidate to fill the position of Assessor. This is a highly responsible department head position, and a member of the Town’s senior management team. Reporting to the Town Manager; this position manages two staff members.

Brunswick is a dynamic community of close to 22,000 residents. Spanning 54 square miles; Brunswick borders the Androscoggin River, New Meadows River, Maquoit Bay and Casco Bay. The Town has 66 miles of shoreline on Casco Bay and 12 miles of frontage on the Androscoggin River. There are approximately 9,500 real estate parcels with over 450 commercial and industrial properties. Brunswick is home to Bowdoin College, Brunswick Landing (former Brunswick Naval Air Station), various facilities of Bath Iron Works, a vibrant downtown, a separate and large retail district (Cook’s Corner), an industrial/business park, a major hydro-power dam, a hospital (two campuses) and two of the largest solar farms in the State. A revaluation was completed in 2017.

This position is responsible for supervising and conducting the appraisal and assessment of real and personal property for tax purposes and developing the methods and procedures for administrating the assessing program; all in accordance with Maine State Statutes. The Assessor will perform a variety of complex and technical work in the appraisal of commercial, residential and personal property. Candidates should review the complete position description in detail for the essential functions and requirements of this highly responsible role.

Interested applicants will hold the knowledge of public or business administration (or a related field) equivalent to completion of a 4-year college degree and at least five (5) years of related experience. The candidate may also hold the equivalent combination of education and experience that allows for the effective performance of the position requirements. Certification as a Certified Maine Assessor is required.

Assistant Town Engineer (Re-Advertised):  The Town of Brunswick is seeking a candidate for the position of Assistant Town Engineer. Working within established policies and procedures; the selected candidate will provide technical and professional assistance to the Town Engineer in the performance of civil engineering, surveying and other technical functions. This position will primarily work in the areas of permitting (street opening, obstruction, and driveway entrance), project planning and construction inspection, GIS and Mapping. Other areas of assistance will include traffic control, sign inventory management, subdivision/site planning inspection and facilities management.

The selected candidate will be self-motivated and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The proven ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to employees, officials, consultants, the general public and others will be of utmost importance, while maintaining good public relations.

Reporting to the Town Engineer; this position will require considerable knowledge of public works functions. Applicants should hold the equivalent to the completion of a four-year college degree. Alternatively; applicants may also have the equivalent combination of education and experience for the successful performance of all essential functions. A degree in civil engineering, construction management technologies, or a related field is preferred. An extensive knowledge of computers, ability to use desktop programs and proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS initiatives are required.

Truck Driver:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks a safety-conscious operator for the position of Truck Driver.

This position requires heavy lifting and outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions. Experience with winter snow plowing is helpful.  A valid Class B/CDL license with a good driving record is required.  The leading candidate will undergo and must successfully pass a pre-employment physical including a chemical/drug screening test.

This position is full-time (40-hours per week).
