General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. A Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Appraiser:  The Town of Brunswick Assessing Department is seeking an experienced and self-motivated candidate for the position of Appraiser.

This position will have ongoing interaction with customers; both in person and over the phone. Ability to work courteously with excellent customer service skills are a necessity. This position will share ongoing assistance to all department visitors, to include residents, Town staff/management, etc.

Candidates should review the job description for a full outline of duties. This position will work with the Town Assessor and a second Department Appraiser to accomplish duties within specific annual deadlines. A high attention to detail is a must. Requirements include the ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task as needed. Organizational skills of a high degree are a must. Thorough knowledge of computer operations required, to include Microsoft Office (with a concentration in Excel). Prior experience with Vision and Trio is preferred.

Interested applicants will hold a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by completed course work in property appraisal and assessment. Experience in real estate transactions, appraising, assessing or similar work preferred. Familiarity with building construction details are a plus. Current Certified Maine Assessor status is preferred. However, if the CMA is not currently held by the candidate; the ability to attain Certification will be required within two years following hire.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position of 40 hours per week. The starting pay range for this position is $20.58 to $21.41 per hour. Operations Manager:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Operations Manager. This critical and highly-responsible position reports directly to the Public Works Director.

The Operations Manager plans, coordinates, and evaluates maintenance and operations activities related to streets, sidewalks, storm water drainage systems, solid waste and recycling, and vehicles and equipment. This position supervises and directs all personnel in the Highway, Solid Waste/Recycling, and Fleet Maintenance Divisions.

The successful candidate will have a proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and the ability to lead, manage, motivate, and direct the activities of the department’s personnel. Excellent customer service skills are a necessity, with the ability to proactively establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal courteously with residents, colleagues, town staff members, vendors, businesses and community groups, and federal, state, regional, and local agencies. The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used to carry out typical responsibilities of a public works department.

The preferred candidate will have at least five (5) years of supervisory experience in a similar work environment and a Class B commercial driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year of hire). Please review the job description in detail for further requirements.

Firefighter/EMT (4):  **Please see important information/forms below.**

The Town of Brunswick Fire Department will be hiring four candidates for the position of Firefighter/EMT (Advanced or Paramedic). The estimated start date will be September 30, 2019. In order to be considered; Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be currently licensed as a Maine EMT-Advanced or Paramedic by August 2, 2019. A copy of your driver’s license and EMS license must be included with your application materials. Leading candidates for this position will be required to successfully pass an in-depth background check, as well as medical examinations (psychological and pre-employment physical.)

We follow a bi-weekly payroll schedule. The current pay ranges for a 42-hour Firefighter/EMT schedule are as follows:

FF/EMT-A $686.56 to $769.48 ($1,373.14 to $1,538.96 bi-weekly)

FF/EMT-P $782.40 to $865.30 ($1,564.80 to $1,730.61 bi-weekly)

NOTE: The pay rates above include a .25 stipend for Hazmat Certification. The actual pay rate may be adjusted (-.25) if this certification is not currently held by the selected candidate. In lieu of current Union negotiations at the time of advertisement; the above pay scales may or may not be adjusted or increased for July 1, 2019. Any adjustment or increase will be subject both to budgetary allowances and Town Manager/Town Council approval.

All candidates will be required to undergo the Brunswick Fire Department physical agility test. (A CPAT will not be accepted). A practice physical agility test will be offered on Saturday, July 13, 2019. The written exam and final physical agility test will take place on Saturday August 3, 2019. Candidates will be notified of site location and times following application.

Maintenance Worker (Full-time/weekdays): The Town of Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department is seeking candidates for the position of Maintenance Worker. The selected candidate will perform general maintenance in parks, facilities, and buildings operated by the Parks & Recreation Department. Daily work includes a full range of maintenance at all Town Parks and facilities. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, turf maintenance, custodial work, locking of gates, minor equipment maintenance, snow removal/plowing, and landscape work (mowing, weed whacking, etc.).

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED; a driving record in good standing and past experience with building and turf/landscape maintenance. This is a Union position of 40 hours per week. The shift will be Monday through Friday (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

Candidates should be aware that several annual Department events will necessitate additional night and weekend hours. Additional work hours will be spent on snow removal as weather conditions dictate.

The Town of Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department is hiring for Seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers!
Seeking responsible, energetic and hard-working individuals to join its Parks staff.  This process will remain open until all positions are filled. Downtown Seasonal Maintenance Worker:  The Parks & Recreation Department has an opening for a seasonal maintenance worker to perform cleanup, sweeping and landscape maintenance along the Maine Street sidewalks in downtown Brunswick. The position is 22½ hours per week (7am to 11:30am, Monday through Friday).  The opening will run from May until approximately September 13th.

Duties include: Sweeping, litter collection, weeding, weed whacking, and various other maintenance activities to keep Maine Street sidewalks clean and attractive.

Essential Functions: Must be able to operate small power hand tools. Ability to bend, stoop, lift and carry 50 pounds. Candidate will perform a variety of maintenance procedures, including sweeping. Physical stamina and agility required to perform manual maintenance tasks. Must have ability to work outside in spring/summer weather conditions and stand for extended periods of time. Courteous customer service skills are required to members of the public as well as co-workers.

Requirements: Must have driver’s license in good standing. Criminal and driving background checks will be conducted for final candidates. Steel-toed work boots are required. Communications Officer:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking exceptional candidates for this challenging and responsible position in Public Safety. Located within the Brunswick Police Department; the selected candidate will operate a complex telecommunication system, transmitting and receiving radio messages and responding to requests from citizens by phone or in person for all public safety services, including a NG911 system. This is a rotating 40-hour per week position involving daytime, evening, overnight and holiday shifts.

The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as experience and proficiency in the use of computers. You must also have the ability to receive and disseminate information accurately and without delay; maintain composure during extremely demanding and potentially stressful situations and have a high attention to detail. Prior experience preferred; however, detailed training will be conducted with the selected candidate. Training will also include required certification for a State of Maine PSAP and Dispatch Center.

Following application, candidates will be advised of details regarding a mandatory position-specific written/audio test. Interviews will be extended to the highest-scoring candidates, to be determined based on the final application count. The final candidate must pass an extensive background check, pre-employment physical (including audiogram), polygraph and psychological exam. This Union position has a starting pay range of $17.5877 to $18.65 per hour, DOE. Parks & Facilities Manager (Parks and Recreation Department): This is a key management position with responsibility for coordinating and directing the Town’s maintenance personnel towards the goal of providing orderly and safe parks/recreation facilities for the public’s enjoyment. Tasks include the direction of staff in the maintenance, custodial, repair and construction of the Town’s parks, athletic complexes, and recreation facilities. As the Town Arborist, this position will also be responsible for directing a comprehensive tree care program for the Town’s street and park trees.

Requirements: Duties require considerable knowledge of park administration, landscape architecture, horticulture, facilities maintenance/methods and construction or related field of study equivalent to the completion of a four (4)-year college degree and at least five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Familiarity with municipal parks and recreation helpful. Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently as well as part of a team. Arborist experience preferred. The full salary range for this position is $49,336 to $67,519. The starting salary will be DOE and budgetary allowances.

TV Master Control Operator (P/T):  Brunswick TV3, the Government and Public Access Channel operated by the Town of Brunswick, is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of TV Master Control Operator. This part-time position reports directly to the Cable TV Coordinator.

In this position, you will be responsible for the operation of all television transmission and production equipment used to cablecast and record municipal meetings, as well as the audio and presentation systems utilized in the meeting room.

This part-time/year-round position involves changing work days and hours. Shifts are mostly in the evenings, to include some late afternoon meeting start times. As the length of meetings is unknown, it is required that the operator be available until the meeting has ended. It also requires the ability to work independently.

The successful candidate will have some technical background in television cable casting, broadcasting or related experience, as well as strong computer skills. The starting hourly rate is $12.50, with a three-hour minimum.

Truck Driver:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks a safety-conscious operator for the position of Truck Driver.

This position requires heavy lifting and outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions. Experience with winter snow plowing is helpful.  A valid Class B/CDL license with a good driving record is required.  The leading candidate will undergo and must successfully pass a pre-employment physical including a chemical/drug screening test.

This position is full-time (40-hours per week).
