General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. Unless otherwise noted, a Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Applications and job descriptions may also be obtained from the Town Manager’s Office in the Brunswick Municipal Building. For further information, please call the Human Resources Department at (207) 725-6653.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Firefighter/EMT:  **(Important: Please scroll down for accompanying forms to this process)**

Applications are currently being accepted for the position of Firefighter/EMT (Advanced or Paramedic) for the Town of Brunswick Fire Department. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be currently licensed as a Maine EMT-Advanced or Paramedic by June 1, 2018. A copy of your driver’s license and EMS license must be attached to your application materials.  Leading candidates for this position will be required to successfully pass an in-depth background check, as well as medical examinations (psychological and pre-employment physical.)

The Town of Brunswick offers an excellent benefit package including options for health, dental and/or life insurances, short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and 13 paid holidays. We follow a bi-weekly payroll schedule; the pay ranges for a 42-hour week are:

FF/EMT-A      $686.56 to $769.48  ($1,373.14 to $1,538.96 bi-weekly)

FF/EMT-P      $782.40 to $865.30  ($1,564.80 to $1,730.61 bi-weekly)

NOTE: The pay rates above include a .25 stipend for Hazmat Certification. The actual pay rate may be adjusted (-.25) if this certification is not currently held by the selected candidate.  

All candidates will be required to undergo the Brunswick Fire Department physical agility test. (A CPAT will not be accepted).  A practice physical agility test will be offered on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  The written exam and final physical agility test will take place on Saturday June 2, 2018.  Candidates will be notified of site location and times following application.

**Important information to this process, including the medical clearance forms required to undergo the practice and final Physical Agility Tests, can be found on the Town website at www.brunswickme.org under the Human Resources Department.**  Candidates will need a signed medical release form before participating in either PAT portion of this process.

Public Works Director:  This is a highly responsible, senior management, department head position directing the efficient and effective delivery of all public works functions of the Town of Brunswick. The position requires proficiency in public works functions, personnel management, financial administration, strategic planning, project management, and systems development and administration, all in a public service environment.  Responsibilities include: construction and maintenance of roads and related infrastructure; solid waste collection and disposal; fleet management and maintenance; and facilities planning and maintenance.  The incumbent functions with considerable independence and latitude in accordance with established procedures and general direction from the Town Manager.

Duties require considerable knowledge of public works functions, equivalent to completion of a four-year college degree, plus at least five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to allow successful performance of all essential functions. Degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred.   Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.

The full salary range for this position is $68,405 to $93,617. Town Engineer:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department is seeking an outstanding candidate for this highly responsible and senior level position. The selected candidate will be responsible for directing and managing the Town’s engineering functions.  This position will require proficiency within many civil engineering disciplines, to include: infrastructure and site development, construction management, storm water management, solid waste management and facilities management.  Responsibilities will include direction of, and/or the hands-on preparation and review of plans, specifications and cost estimates; site inspections and reporting; assisting and advising departments and regulatory authorities, as well as the approval of permits and applications.

Reporting to the Town Manager; this position will function as the facilities manager for all municipal buildings and facilities. The position will also manage the daily operation and future closure of, Brunswick’s solid waste Landfill.

This position will require a four-year college degree in civil engineering or related field; plus at least five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to allow successful performance of all essential functions. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Maine is required.  Certifications or an advanced degree are preferred.

Truck Driver:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks a safety-conscious operator for the position of Truck Driver.

This position requires heavy lifting and outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions. Experience with winter snow plowing is helpful.  A valid Class B/CDL license with a good driving record is required.  The leading candidate will undergo and must successfully pass a pre-employment physical including a chemical/drug screening test.

This position is full-time (40-hours per week). Assistant Tax Collector:  The Tax Division of the Town of Brunswick Finance Department seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Tax Collector.

Tasks for this position include the accurate collection of taxes and other municipal revenues. The incumbent will process Motor Vehicle registrations, Boat, Snowmobile and ATV registrations and Passport applications and will perform other Finance Department functions as required.

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills to support Brunswick citizens as it relates to Tax Office functions. Strong attention to detail is a requirement in the handling of cash and credit card transactions.  Skilled use and familiarity with computer applications is highly desirable.  Prior knowledge of the operational practices within a municipal Tax Office is helpful.

This position is 40 hours per week with a starting pay range of $16.11 to $16.76, commensurate with skills and experience. Communications OfficerThe Town of Brunswick is seeking exceptional candidates for this challenging and responsible position in Public Safety. Located within the Brunswick Police Department; the selected candidate will operate a complex telecommunication system, transmitting and receiving radio messages and responding to requests from citizens by phone or in person for all public safety services, including a NG911 system.  This is a rotating 40-hour per week position involving daytime, evening, overnight and holiday shifts.

The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as experience and proficiency in the use of computers. You must also have the ability to receive and disseminate information accurately and without delay; maintain composure during extremely demanding and potentially stressful situations and have a high attention to detail.  Prior experience preferred, but detailed training will be conducted with the selected candidate.  Training will also include required certification for a State of Maine PSAP and Dispatch Center.

Following application, candidates will be advised of details regarding a mandatory position-specific written/audio test. Interviews will be extended to the highest-scoring candidates, to be determined based on the final application count.  The final candidate must pass an extensive background check, pre-employment physical (including audiogram), polygraph and psychological exam.  This Union position has a starting pay range of $16.82 to $18.36 per hour, DOE.  The Town’s benefits include options for health, dental, life and disability insurances; retirement plan choices, paid vacations, compensatory time, personal time and holidays.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. To be considered for this opportunity, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and attained an Associate’s Degree (or 60 college credits) or equivalent work/military history with specialization in criminal justice preferred. A minimum score of 50 is required on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) ALERT test. The next Alert Tests will be offered on February 7th and 21st at the MCJA.
