General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. A Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Communications Officer:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking exceptional candidates for this challenging and responsible position in Public Safety. Located within the Brunswick Police Department; the selected candidate will operate a complex telecommunication system, transmitting and receiving radio messages and responding to requests from citizens by phone or in person for all public safety services, including a NG911 system. This is a rotating 40-hour per week position involving daytime, evening, overnight and holiday shifts.

The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as experience and proficiency in the use of computers. You must also have the ability to receive and disseminate information accurately and without delay; maintain composure during extremely demanding and potentially stressful situations and have a high attention to detail. Prior experience preferred; however, detailed training will be conducted with the selected candidate. Training will also include required certification for a State of Maine PSAP and Dispatch Center.

Following application, candidates will be advised of details regarding a mandatory position-specific written/audio test. Interviews will be extended to the highest-scoring candidates, to be determined based on the final application count. The final candidate must pass an extensive background check, pre-employment physical (including audiogram), polygraph and psychological exam. This Union position has a starting pay range of $17.5877 to $18.65 per hour, DOE. The Town’s benefits include options for health, dental, life and disability insurances; retirement plan choices, paid vacations, compensatory time, personal time and holidays.

Parks & Facilities Manager (Parks and Recreation Department): This is a key management position with responsibility for coordinating and directing the Town’s maintenance personnel towards the goal of providing orderly and safe parks/recreation facilities for the public’s enjoyment. Tasks include the direction of staff in the maintenance, custodial, repair and construction of the Town’s parks, athletic complexes, and recreation facilities. As the Town Arborist, this position will also be responsible for directing a comprehensive tree care program for the Town’s street and park trees.

Requirements: Duties require considerable knowledge of park administration, landscape architecture, horticulture, facilities maintenance/methods and construction or related field of study equivalent to the completion of a four (4)-year college degree and at least five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Familiarity with municipal parks and recreation helpful. Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently as well as part of a team. Arborist experience preferred. The full salary range for this position is $49,336 to $67,519. The starting salary will be DOE and budgetary allowances.

TV Master Control Operator (P/T):  Brunswick TV3, the Government and Public Access Channel operated by the Town of Brunswick, is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of TV Master Control Operator. This part-time position reports directly to the Cable TV Coordinator.

In this position, you will be responsible for the operation of all television transmission and production equipment used to cablecast and record municipal meetings, as well as the audio and presentation systems utilized in the meeting room.

This part-time/year-round position involves changing work days and hours. Shifts are mostly in the evenings, to include some late afternoon meeting start times. As the length of meetings is unknown, it is required that the operator be available until the meeting has ended. It also requires the ability to work independently.

The successful candidate will have some technical background in television cable casting, broadcasting or related experience, as well as strong computer skills. The starting hourly rate is $12.50, with a three-hour minimum.

Economic and Community Development Director:  The Town of Brunswick seeks exceptional candidates to lead the Town’s ongoing economic and community development efforts. The successful candidate should be entrepreneurial, collaborative, and innovative. The position reports to the Town Manager and works closely with all levels of municipal government to develop and nurture relationships with Brunswick’s business communities, downtown interests, as well as with various governmental and community organizations.

Brunswick is a dynamic community of close to 22,000 residents, with a vibrant downtown, business park and a large retail and commercial district poised for growth and development. Brunswick is home to Brunswick Landing-Maine’s Center for Innovation, Brunswick Executive Airport, Bowdoin College, a campus of the Southern Maine Community College, various facilities of Bath Iron Works, a major hospital, several health services providers, and two of the largest solar farms in Maine. Brunswick boasts 66 miles of shorefront on Casco Bay, with abundant marine resources. The Town also has significant frontage on the Androscoggin and New Meadows rivers.

Candidates should have a solid foundation in the principles of business development, finance, and marketing. Work experience should include five or more years of executive experience in business planning and development, or management-level work within government or private organization. Proven collaboration, negotiation, presentation and written communication skills are required. Promotional and marketing experience is a plus.

Truck Driver:  The Town of Brunswick Public Works Department seeks a safety-conscious operator for the position of Truck Driver.

This position requires heavy lifting and outdoor physical labor in all weather conditions. Experience with winter snow plowing is helpful.  A valid Class B/CDL license with a good driving record is required.  The leading candidate will undergo and must successfully pass a pre-employment physical including a chemical/drug screening test.

This position is full-time (40-hours per week).
