General Information and Application Process
This page contains current position vacancies for the Town of Brunswick. Unless otherwise noted, a Town of Brunswick employment application form is required for all jobs listed.  The application may be downloaded from this page, completed on your computer, and faxed or mailed to the Department of Human Resources.

Completed, original applications must be received by the Town Manager’s Office by the deadline stated in any position posting.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the application form, which can be completed on your computer or printed blank and completed by hand. The Town of Brunswick does not accept applications for unadvertised positions. The one exception is the Police Department The Town will accept applications to hold and consider for a future hiring process, during which an eligibility list will be established.

Open Positions:

Public Works Director:   This is a highly responsible, senior management, department head position directing the efficient and effective delivery of all public works functions of the Town of Brunswick. The position requires proficiency in public works functions, personnel management, financial administration, strategic planning, project management, and systems development and administration, all in a public service environment.  Responsibilities include: construction and maintenance of roads and related infrastructure; solid waste collection and disposal; fleet management and maintenance; and facilities planning and maintenance.  The incumbent functions with considerable independence and latitude in accordance with established procedures and general direction from the Town Manager.

Duties require considerable knowledge of public works functions, equivalent to completion of a four-year college degree, plus at least five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to allow successful performance of all essential functions. Degree in civil engineering or a related field is preferred.   Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.

The full salary range for this position is $68,405 to $93,618. Patrol Officer (**Please scroll down for important process forms**): The Brunswick Police Department is a progressive department, devoted to community involvement, utilizing a team-oriented approach. To fulfill our current mission statement, we believe in up-to-date training and offer other educational opportunities to our Officers to assist them in dealing with today’s law enforcement needs.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. Our base pay is $20.00 to $21.72 per hour.  (This pay will adjust upon the approval of a new Union contract.)  The Department highly considers prior experience when determining the starting pay rate.  With the Department’s educational incentive benefit and a four-year degree; the pay range for this position will be $21.86 to $23.89 per hour.  Town benefits include options for health, dental and/or life insurances; short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and paid holidays/floaters.  Additional benefits include educational assistance/incentive, physical fitness bonus ($350 to $1,445 per year), paid gym memberships (up to $350 per year), yearly clothing allowance and a 20-year retirement option.

The Town of Brunswick Police Department continues to offer a $5,000 signing bonus to existing Certified Law Enforcement Officers.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and attained an Associate’s Degree (or 60 college credits) or equivalent work/military history with specialization in criminal justice preferred. A minimum score of 50 is required on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) ALERT test. The Alert Test will be offered on September 20th and 21st via the MCJA. While successful completion of the MCJA Physical Agility Test (PAT) is helpful, the Brunswick Police Department will conduct a required PAT for all candidates the morning of Sunday, October 15th. Clearance by the candidate’s physician is required to participate in Brunswick’s PAT. Leading candidates will then undergo an Oral Board interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and a medical exam.  The hired candidate would attend the next 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at MCJA in January, 2018.

Deputy Marine Warden/Deputy Harbormaster:  **Re-Advertised**

The Marine Division of the Town of Brunswick Police Department seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Deputy Marine Warden/Deputy Harbormaster.

The ideal candidate for this full-time/year-round position will be seeking employment in the area of enforcement and conservation pertaining to marine and environmental laws. The selected candidate will enforce the Town’s Ordinance, as well as State Statutes.  Duties include, but are not limited to, ongoing jurisdiction patrol to detect illegal shell fishing and/or other environmental violations.  This position will assist with pollution identification efforts, water quality collection and any scientific studies that determine the health of the local shellfish industry.

Requirements: Valid driver’s license in good standing; ability both to work independently and to safely operate a watercraft.  The hired candidate will be expected to complete several certification programs within the first year of employment.

The leading candidate will undergo a detailed background check, which includes a polygraph, psychological and medical examinations. Applicants should currently hold 60 or more college credits.  Completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service 100 Hours Course is required.

TV Master Control Operator (Part-time):  Brunswick TV3, the Government and Public Access Channel operated by the Town of Brunswick, is seeking talented individuals to fill the position of TV Master Control Operator. This part-time position reports directly to the IT/Cable Manager.

In this position, you will be responsible for the operation of all television transmission and production equipment used to cablecast and record municipal meetings, as well as the audio and presentation systems utilized in the meeting room.

This part-time/year-round position involves changing work days and hours. Shifts are mostly in the evenings, to include some late afternoon meeting start times.  As the length of meetings is unknown, it is required that the operator be available until the meeting has ended.  It also requires the ability to work independently.

The successful candidate will have some technical background in television cable casting, broadcasting or related experience, as well as strong computer skills. The starting hourly rate is $12.50, with a three-hour minimum.

School Crossing Guard:  The Town of Brunswick is seeking individuals for the position of School Crossing Guard. This position is during the school year only and will be ten hours per week.  The pay is $10.50 per hour.

The Candidate must have ability to work flexible hours (two hours per day: morning from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and afternoon from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.) in all weather conditions. The hiring process includes a thorough background check.

Our excellent benefit package includes competitive pay and offers a lateral entry option commensurate with experience. Our base pay is $20.00 to $21.72 per hour.  The Department highly considers prior experience when determining the starting pay rate.  With the Department’s educational incentive benefit and a four-year degree; the pay range for this position will be $21.86 to 23.89 per hour.  Town benefits include options for health, dental and/or life insurances; short-term disability, retirement plan choices, educational reimbursement, paid vacations, sick time and paid holidays/floaters.  Additional benefits include educational assistance/incentive, physical fitness bonus ($350 to $1,445 per year), paid gym memberships (up to $350 per year), yearly clothing allowance and a 20-year retirement option.  A $2,500 bonus will be paid to the successful candidate upon commencement of employment and an additional $2,500 on their one-year anniversary.
