How do I…

How do I get a landfill permit?
If your vehicle is registered in Brunswick you can get a permit at the Graham Road Landfill or at the Public Works Department. If your vehicle is not registered in Brunswick, you must bring your vehicle registration and a current utility bill with your Brunswick address on it when you apply for the permit at or the Graham Road Landfill. If you rent out your property and don’t reside in Brunswick you need your vehicle registration and can only get a permit at the Graham Road Landfill – this permit will be a commercial permit because you do not physically live on your property. The Graham Road Landfill only accepts material from properties in Brunswick and not from other towns.

How do I get a Street Opening Permit?
A Street Opening Permit is required if you will be excavating with the town street right-of-way. This includes lawn areas, the public sidewalk or within the actual street bed. If you need to excavate within the town right-of-way you must first apply for a permit and provide information on what you are doing, name of the contractor doing the work, submit information on how traffic will be maintained during the work and provide proof of general liability and vehicle insurance. You may download the application from the Forms & Documents page of our website or, call to have us fax it to you, or stop by Public Works to get a permit application. Once the form is filled out, please return it to us for processing along with the appropriate application fee. Please allow at least two weeks for our review and approval of the permit once all required information has been submitted.

How do I get an Entrance Permit?
An Entrance Permit is required if you will be constructing a new driveway or expanding an existing driveway where it connects to the public street. An Entrance Permit is not required to repave an existing driveway. If you plan to install a new driveway or make your existing driveway larger you must first apply for a permit and provide information on what you are doing, submit a scaled plan of the driveway location with dimensions and materials to be used, information on a culvert if one is required, name of the contractor doing the work and provide proof of general liability and vehicle insurance. Once the form is filled out, please return it to us for processing with your application fee and allow two weeks for us to review and issue a permit before you intend to start the work.

How do I get a recycling “blue box”
Presently we do not have any blue boxes but you may stop in to Public Works between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and we can provide you with “Recycle It” bumper stickers that you can put on your own recycling container. Check back here in the summer as we hope to be able to purchase replacement blue boxes to give away later this year. Only one recycling bin per residence is allowed, and you may not pick one up for anyone else.

How do I get rid of hazardous waste?
You can hold on to it (storing it in a safe, dry place) until Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day (Town HHWD), usually held in the fall, and dispose of it for free. Advertisements posting the dates can be found in the newspaper, online on our website, and on our Town Calendar.  For a fee, you can drop it off at Clean Harbors in Portland (799-8111) or the Environmental Depot in Lewiston (786-7390).

How do I get to the Graham Road Landfill?
Take River Road off Pleasant Street, drive 4.3 miles, and turn right on Lisbon Road.  Drive .9 miles and turn right onto Graham Road. The Landfill is about .4 miles in. Look for blue signs with white lettering saying “Town of Brunswick Graham Road Landfill” at both turns.
