Brunswick's Fire Department will get at least one new fire truck, and possibly a second engine under a proposal from Fire Chief Clark Labbe.

The town council on Monday night authorized borrowing $450,000 to purchase a new fire truck, and in a second action set June 30 as the public hearing for borrowing an additional $450,000 for a second truck.

Labbe said Engine 1, which was purchased in 1987, and Engine 3, which was acquired in 1991, need to be replaced.

By purchasing two trucks simultaneously, Labbe estimates the town could save up to $70,000.
