Brunswick, ME Fire Department Tower 1

Tower 1

This piece of apparatus replaces the departments’ old 100’ American LaFrance ladder which was taken out of service in July of 2005.  The new Pierce ladder is the same overall length as the old ladder, but with the addition of a “basket” to provide an increased fire fighter safety.  This modern aerial device allows fire fighters to work from the safety of a fire proof enclosure without having to step onto fire weakened or icy roof structures.  This aerial device also has a much greater weight capacity than that of the old ladder; which allows up to four fire fighters in the basket at one time at full extension and at any elevation.  The increased weight capacity of the newer aerial allows for more people to be rescued and fire fighters can be safer performing rescue and firefighting tasks.  The newer aerial also has a 2000 gallon-per-minute fire pump, 12.5 kw diesel generator and eight 900 watt halogen scene lights.  The aerial also is medically equipped with EMS supplies, carries a small compliment of ice rescue, rope rescue and vehicle extrication tools as well as rescue saws and hand tools.
