Fire Department patch  EMS patch

All Brunswick firefighters are cross trained, holding EMS licenses ranging from Basic EMT to Paramedic, they also earn state FF II certification within two years of hire. These two patches are worn on the uniforms of all firefighters to signify the dual roles served.

The Fire Department patch is based on the traditional Cross Pattee-Nowy otherwise know as the Maltese Cross. This cross represents the fire service ideals of saving lives and extinguishing fires. The colors are symbolic; "Blue" stands for sincerity and truth, "White" for peace, "Red" for nobelness and "Gold" for generosity.

The "Star of Life" is the symbol of Emergency Medical Technicians, its use is encouraged both by the American Medical Association and the Advisory Council within the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The six barred cross was adapted from the Medical Identification Symbol of the American Medical Association and was registered as a certification mark on February 1, 1977 in the name of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.

Each of the bars of the blue "Star of Life" represents one of the following six system functions of EMS:
Detection, Reporting, Response, On Scene Care, Care in Transit and Transfer to Definitive Care.

The patches below were worn by Brunswick Firefighters in previous years.
