Income Protection Plan (Short Term Disability)

The Town of Brunswick offers a Short Term Disability Income Protection Plan through the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust. All employees working 20 hours a week or more are eligible to participate. Employees pay 100% of the premium to enroll on a post-tax basis. Employees have 60 days from the date of hire to enroll without providing Evidence of Insurability (clearance by their physician).

Evidence of Insurability is required for any employee wishing to enroll at a later date. Coverage begins on the first day of the following month after enrollment.

Benefits

An employee may elect to receive this benefit at 40%, 55% or 70% of their gross salary. In the event of an accident or illness (non-work related), the employee will then receive a weekly check (salary replacement) at the level selected. Benefits for accident-related causes begin on the first day of disability. Benefits for illness-related causes begin on the eighth consecutive day. The maximum period for which benefits are paid is 52 weeks.
