Overview

Description: This 591-acre parcel was conveyed to the Town of Brunswick by the U.S. Navy. It is the largest of the town’s open space properties and it will be primarily passive use, including a system of walking and shared use trails; winter use for non- motorized recreation; access for hunting, fishing, clamming, etc.; and opportunities for interpretive signage or amenities. Development of a seven-mile system of trails began in 2014 and will be completed by spring of 2021

Location:  The preserve stretches from the southern end of the Brunswick Executive Airport runways to Harpswell Sound and also borders the Mere Creek Golf Course and Prince’s Point Road.

Hours of operation: One hour before dawn to one half hour after dusk.

Primary uses: Cross Country Skiing, Hiking and hunting

Amenities available:

• Trail system currently in development
• Ample parking at Kate Furbish West property (Parking at Kate Furbish East limited)

Restrictions:

•No motor vehicles, ATV’s, snowmobiles or golf carts permitted

•Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

•Hunting restricted to shotgun, black powder and archery only.

•Horses are not permitted upon the preserve

•Camping on the preserve is prohibited

•Carry in/carry out trash policy

•No unauthorized temporary or permanent structures permitted

Background: A Brunswick Town Council appointed Recreation, Trails and Open Space Stakeholder Committee worked to develop the management plan for the property.
